Context | Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC) was inaugurated by youth of Africa and Arab world gathering in Khartoum, Sudan in 2004. Its headquarter later changed to Uganda after the resolution of the Afro Arab Youth Festival of 2008, in Munyonyo (Kampala Declaration) that resolved to construct its AAYC permanent home in Kampala. A secretariat was set up at Bunamwaya to pursue the objectives of the AAYC as outlined in the AAYC Statutes. The AAYC aims to use practical approaches to deal with youth pressing issues and provide realistic solutions which corelate with the current times. It is therefore an advocacy group for youth with membership of over 50 countries of the African and Arab world including African Union, Arab League and other International bodies. |

Position Objective | Lead the creation of new products, services or processes that keep the organisation competitive and relevant Plan, execute, and oversee research projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. Ensure research activities support the company's strategic objectives and market needs. Effectively allocate budgets, talent and technology to maximise productivity and return on investment. Maintain adherence to industry regulations, safety standards, and intellectual property requirements while delivering high-quality outcomes.

Main Duties (30%) | Be the lead person in research, data collection, expansion, processing, to generate the monthly position papers of AAYC on various issues in the world. Deliver strategic advice, technical assistance and developing networking support to the Secretary General, Partners and other stakeholders as required; Lead and provide clear direction and delivery of the AAYC’s thematic focuses on research, policy analysis, advocacy and strategy development. Lead the team of researchers at AAYC and the department to discuss and agree in ideological propositions for AAYC publication. Monitor key developments in relation to AAYC’s areas of thematic focus, systems, and preparing and publishing relevant materials; Undertake research and analysis, and prepare reports and publications, in relation to matters relevant to AAYC and international relations systems; Work closely with external research consultants to review research reports conducted and ensure methodology is appropriate. Lead the process of the writing, drafting, editing and publication of AAYC’s policy strategies, strategic plans, annual work plans and periodic reports. Identify and create opportunities that support AAYC’s policy and research, reflecting thematic areas of work; Keep abreast with pertinent legislative and policy developments and advise relevant staff as appropriate; Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to support evidence based research and policy. Establish targets and synthesize best practices and monitor such progress against milestones and targets of all outputs that are within the strategic plans lessons learnt; Ensure potential risks associated with AAYC’s positions, advocacy initiatives and public communications are assessed and sign-off procedures are adhered to. Author a weekly opinion on various aspects of the AAYC for publications in the newspapers. Generate a monthly opinion on various aspects of AAYC for Publication in the papers. Support other staff in different departments with your skill to build a team to achieve the overall objectives of AAYC. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

| Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities | Strong analytical and research skills. Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research, analyze data, and produce evidence – based policy recommendations. Ability to lead research projects and teams. Excellent communication and report writing skills Knowledge of Afro-Arab youth issues, policy environments Capacity to work across diverse AAYC contexts, embracing cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and innovative problem-solving. Proposal writing and documentation Knowledge of research methodologies Ability to support research projects and policy work. Understanding of youth policies, regional frameworks (African Union & Arab League).

Academic Qualifications and Experience | PhD in Research, Social Sciences, Policy Studies or relevant field. Minimum of three years of experience in research and teaching Experience in advocacy, proposal and policy development is likely advantageous Age Requirement is from 25-40 years
